What is the BRIGHT Critical Materials Symposium?
The BRIGHT Critical Materials Symposium is an event hosted by the Battery Research, Innovation, and Next-Gen Energy Harvesting Technologies (BRIGHT) Institute at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). It serves as a platform for researchers, students, industry partners, and other stakeholders to come together around emerging research and innovation in energy, battery technologies, microelectronics, and critical materials.
The symposium is designed to foster collaboration across academia, industry, and government, encouraging the exchange of ideas that advance both fundamental research and real-world applications. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions, participants share current work, explore challenges and opportunities in the field, and identify pathways for future collaboration.
A core focus of the symposium is highlighting cutting-edge research and supporting professional development, particularly for students and early-career researchers. The event also emphasizes workforce development, addressing the skills, training, and partnerships needed to support growing industries related to energy and critical materials.
By convening diverse voices and perspectives, the BRIGHT Critical Materials Symposium helps strengthen research networks, elevate UNCG’s leadership in this area, and build a sustained community dedicated to innovation and impact.
